Dear Kevin,

I offer this letter as an introduction to a lovely young woman I had the pleasure to meet some months ago. Amy is a friend of my daughter and recently spent a few weeks in our home over a summer break. Coincidentally, I was involved in our annual community fundraiser, and this dear girl volunteered to perform as part of our program. Oh, I was skeptical at first, one never knows, but I was soon duly impressed by her talent. After studying several years under your expert tutelage, I believe myself to be a good judge of ballet. This young dancer is no less than astounding.

You will see for yourself that her training has been first class from the very beginning. Her dance lessons started at age 5 where she learned to dance and develop skills she would later need for her classical dance studies. She continued training at the Northwest School of Classical Dance in 2001 under the supervision of director John Bishop. Bishop comes to the school with impressive credentials, having performed with the Milwaukee Ballet Company, American Ballet theater, and the Eglevsky Ballet. He has performed as principal dancer in Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and Coppelia. Since, he has transitioned to the roll of choreographer and won awards in this discipline. Amy has been fortunate to have John Bishop as a mentor and to have the best of highly qualified dance instructors employed by this wonderful classical and contemporary ballet school which recently moved from Anacortes, WA to the Bellingham, WA area.

Through a comprehensive audition placement audition process, this young dancer has had extensive dance performance experience. Each year the Northwest Ballet Company produces three major productions for the enrichment and education of its students and the enchantment of sold out audiences at the Mt. Baker Theater and McIntyre Hall. Every student has an opportunity to audition and perform. With classes in barre, allegro and adagio, pointe, variations, and pas-de-duex, this performing arts dance school’s goal is to prepare students for a career in dance. Six of the students of the dance company recently competed in the St. Petersburg International Ballet Competition in Russia. This unique experience included taking master classes at the Kirov, seeing the Kirov Ballet perform and touring several Russian cultural sites… Old friend, I know you will fine Amy an excellent candidate for your school.

Initial critic reactions to the list of celebrities joining season 5 of Dancing with the Stars lacked the excitement that the celebrity dance competition would yield among its audiences. BuddyTV’s John Kubicek found it even preposterous that model Albert Reed was on the list, first because he wasn’t much of a popular figure and second because the show was for “D-list celebrities to try to revive their drowning careers.” Reed wasn’t on the D-list, nor was he a rising figure.

Basically this season’s cast isn’t much of a must-watch collection of celebrities, and ABC has been on the search to find good celebrities to put on their show. Moreover, there are a lot of ABC and Disney personalities who want to be on the competition.

The celebrities themselves have come out in the open and have expressed their aspirations of joining the highly popular Dancing with the Stars. The New York Post reports this.

“It’s not if I do Dancing With The Stars…it’s when,” said Paige Hemmis, a carpenter from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. “The only reason I couldn’t do it this time was that we’re in the middle of our shooting schedule. But maybe by next spring, I’ll be in the clear.”

Another celebrity eager to join the reality dance competition is Chris Harrison, the host of The Bachelor. However, the airing of his show and the shooting schedule are both hindering him from doing so.

“I’d do it in a heartbeat…I’m a big fan and it seems like so much fun,” Harrison said. “[But] they said it would be awkward if I was on a show that led into my own show.”

Corbin Bleu of the popular Disney franchise, High School Musical, and who happens to be Sabrina Bryan’s friend, would also love to participate in the show. However, he thinks that his dance training might put him out of the running. Sabrina Bryan has had a lot of dance training as well, but the tricky part is the ballroom dancing.

“I’d love to do [Dancing with the Stars],” Bleu said. “I’d go out there and mambo…[but] I don’t know if they’d actually allow me to because I’ve trained in ballroom for two years and I know they don’t want that. The whole point is to show people learning to ballroom dance.”

One thing common about these celebrities is that they are all under the same company that produce Dancing with the Stars, so their sincerity of joining the competition may be in question. However, the show’s popularity highly depends on who’s on it to compete, therefore the more celebrities eager to be on it, the more the viewers would tune in.
